Komified Texts: True stories by Native Speakers of English

Our real-life texts are written and voice recorded in the first person to capture your interest and give you the confidence and motivation to speak about your own life experiences

Unlike most English language texts found on the Internet and on other language learning applications, our texts are based on real-life experiences. Most crucially, our texts are written in the first person.

As far as possible, the language in the texts resembles that of spoken English rather than formal written English. This has been achieved through the use of personal pronouns (I and we), fluency-boosting collocations, contractions (I’m instead of I am) and phrasal verbs.

Komified texts are aimed at pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced level learners due to the completely random complexity of vocabulary, collocations and grammar structures. One text might be packed with new phrases and tricky grammar constructions, while you might be very familiar with the language in another text.

Reasons Komified Texts will have you on cloud nine

Cultural intrigue and real-life experiences you will be able to relate to

Many of Steve’s texts relate to his life and experiences living, travelling and working abroad. Topics range from renting apartments to Greek hospitality and from gaining dual citizenship to setting life goals. Not all of the texts are about Steve. We’re engaging native speakers of English from the UK, Australia and North America to write and voice record true stories as well

Use of the first person

Most English language learning texts are purely descriptive and “newsy”. What is unique about Komified texts is the fact that the majority of them are written in the first person with the pronoun “I”. Deep immersion in these texts will enable you to put yourselves in Steve’s shoes and emotionally relate to his experiences on a psychological and emotional level. Moreover, if you have had similar experiences to Steve or agree with certain opinions, you will be able to directly copy sentences from Komified texts and add them to your own list of personalised sentences

Characteristics of natural speech

To bring you closer to natural spoken English, Komified uses contractions (I’ve, I’m), colloquial language and non-complex grammar structures

Useful words and phrases in context

Click on key words and phrases in each text to view collocations, related word forms (adjectives, nouns, verbs) and one or two example sentences containing a target word or phrase. All of these example sentences describe Steve’s experiences or represent his opinions in order to emphasise the point about the power of creating personalised sentences containing newly learned words and phrases

The avoidance of unnecessary formality

Dialogues and sentences on some of our competitors’ platforms contain excessively formal and polite language. In the real world, native speakers of English rarely speak so formally
